BYU The Holy War Utah all time record against Brigham Young is 54–34–4. BYU does not recognize the first six meetings that were held 1896–1898, which the schools split 3–3. BYU was known as Brigham Young Academy and argues that those games do not count in the series. Utah only lost to Brigham Young 5 times from 1922 until 1971, won 38 times, and had 4 ties. When BYU hired LaVell Edwards in 1972, BYU’s fortunes changes. Utah would win only 2 games over the next 21 years. BYU also won a national championship in 1984. Since 1993, the series has been back and forth, Utah has won 11 times and lost 7 times. 14 of the last 18 games have been within a touchdown. The two teams have won or shared the conference championship in ten out of the last 16 years. The rivalry more often than not had conference title implications. WIth the change to the Pac 12 the game will now be played in September and mean little more than bragging rights at Crown Burger. Sports Illustrated.com dubbed the rivalry as the #6 best nickname. UTAH STATE Battle of the Brothers The two teams have one of the longest running football series, at 110 games and counting, It ranks 12th among most played rivalries in college football. Utah's all time record is 77–28–4. The first game in history for both schools was against each other, November 25, 1892, Utah State won 12–0. They have played pretty much every year since with the exclusion of war times, but will not play in the 2010 and 2011 seasons. Utah has won the last eleven games and has only lost 2 of the last 21 games. Colorado The cougars have been circled as the last game of the season for as long as anyone can remember. With the change to the Pac 12, Utah is forced back into a rivalry that they have not played in nearly 50 years. The first game between the two schools dates back to 1903 when the buffalos defeated Utah 22-0. Even though the two teams have not played since 1963 it is the fifth most played rivalry in Utah’s history. Colorado leads the all time series 30-24-3. The game will be played on Black Friday the day after Thanksgiving and should turn into an exciting rivalry in years to come. BEEHIVE BOOT The Beehive Boot, signifies football supremacy in the State of Utah, it was conceived in 1971. It is an authentic Pioneer boot, estimated to be well over 100 years old, and is awarded annually to the school with the best record against its instate NCAA Division I opponents. The schools who compete for the boot are Utah, BYU, and Utah State. Utah has won the boot 11 times since it’s inception. In case of tie, the winner is chosen by a vote conducted by the in-state media. This has only happened twice: in the years 1973 and 1997. Utah State Aggies were voted as the winner of the trophy both of those years.
