The Old Oquirrh Bucket The Champion of the in state rivals has been awarded the Old Oquirrh Bucket since 1974. It is named after the Mountain Range west of Salt Lake City. Utah, BYU, Utah State, Weber State, SUU and UVU are all part of the competition. Although the award has been given since 1974 the actual trophy was not decided on until 1977 when Weber state won the honor, an Ogden businessman bought the pioneer bucket at a local auction and it was presented to the wildcats. Since then it has been the symbol of the instate Basketball Champion. There is a map on the plaque with the names and locations of: BYU, Utah, Utah State, and Weber State. On the plaque it reads "The Oquirrh Bucket Utah State Collegiate Champ Basketball".
